Physics - Recent studies from Hiroshima University add new data to physics
2010 AUG 31 - (VerticalNews.com) -- According to a study from Japan, "We studied the transport properties of CeRu2Al10 single crystals. All the transport properties show largely anisotropic behaviors below T-0." "Those along the a- and c-axes show similar behaviors, but are different from those along the b-axis. This suggests that the system could be viewed as a two-dimensional system. The results of the thermal conductivity and thermoelectric power could be explained by assuming the singlet ground state below T-0," wrote H. Tanida and colleagues, Hiroshima University ...read more
Physics - Report summarizes physics study findings from T. Yanagisawa and co-researchers
2010 AUG 31 - (VerticalNews.com) -- According to recent research from Tsukuba, Japan, "Susceptibilities in the static limit omega -> 0 are evaluated to show that the superconducting Kosterlitz-Thouless transition exists in the two-dimensional Hubbard model for optimal band parameters." "By using quantum Monte Carlo methods, we have examined the size dependence of the spin susceptibility chi(Q) at half filling and the pair susceptibilities with d- and s-wave symmetries for the repulsive and attractive interactions, respectively. The numerical results for systems of up to 14 x 14 sites show that the s-wave pair susceptibility scales as chi(pair) similar to L-2 for the attractive case, in agreement with previous quantum Monte Carlo studies," wrote T. Yanagisawa and colleagues ...read more
Physics - Recent findings from Saga University highlight research in physics
2010 AUG 31 - (VerticalNews.com) -- "A bulk-sensitive measurement is required in order to observe changes in the electronic states across metal-insulator transition (MIT). We have measured unoccupied and occupied electronic states for V2O3 powder above and below the MIT by O K partial fluorescence yield (PFY) and soft x-ray emission spectroscopy (SXES) using a soft x-ray emission spectrometer," scientists writing in the Journal of the Physical Society of Japan report ...read more
